Spyware and Virus files are Prevalent

During January of 2009 we seem to be infested with a number of computers that have been invaded by Antivirus 2008 or Antivirus 2009.  This is actually a virus that can cause significant damage.

If you have the message about antivirus 2008/9 pop up, IMMEDIATELY turn your system off, do not click anywhere in the pop up screen.

If you do allow the program to install itself, turn your system off and call us.

It seems everyone that uses the Internet has been infected with spyware.   How can you tell if you are being affected by spyware?  If you notice "popups", have been rerouted to an unexpected website (particularly after going to a site that sells things) or your computer has been operating slower and slower, you probably have spyware.

The highest rated FREE programs for removing spyware are AVG and Adaware.  These programs are available from www.download.com

Simply enter adaware or avg and follow the prompts.  Be sure to check for updates before and after running it.

If your spyware infection is serious, there are much more powerful commercial grade tools available.  MicroSphere can do an extensive 40 Point Checkup for Your PC.  This checks spyware, viruses, optimizes the operating system, hard drive and programs.  Spyware can be very invasive causing your computer to be inefficient for what you want to use it for.  If running the free programs doesn't seem to give new life to your computer, give us a call.
