Vista SP1 Released  Spring 2008

MicroSoft is released Vista as a replacement for Windows XP the end of January 2007.

Because of the large overhead required to run Vista, Microsoft has significantly upgraded the requirements of the computer to run it.  Requirements for the business and higher end versions include:

               - 2 GB of memory minimum                 -  Intel 945 chipset or newer

               - 160BG of hard drive space                 -  Good Graphics Card

NOTE:  For more information on Intel's new Hardware, please go to our page.

Vista is currently proposed to have 4 versions:

Vista Home Basic:            Minimum Operating System

Vista Home Premium:       Basic OS plus Media Center features

Vista Business:                Xp Pro-like  OS with Networking and Remote Access

Vista Ultimate:                All above features plus special file encryption - this is totally new

MicroSphere has normally recommended and sold Windows XP Pro since most of our customers have or use networks in their normal course of daily activities.  Testing and Manufactures certifications indicate that our computers do work correctly with Vista.  If you would like to see Vista with the Aero enhanced interface in action, please stop by and talk with Larry.

The actual Vista software is written in Visual Basic. The software is half as fast as Windows XP and many XP programs must be rewritten to run correctly in Vista.  Be sure to check each program and driver to verify the support for Vista.

According the the Wall Street Journal, there is currently no productive software that requires using Vista.  All the programs will run in Windows XP as well.    In addition, none has been announced yet as pending.

In the July issue of 2008 of PC Magazine, their opinion is that according to PC Magazine, Vista is the worst fiasco ever produced by MicroSoft

MicroSoft has announced that Windows 7 is under development.  The basic operating system is 25 times smaller than Vista and ALL XP software is supported.  Release date is estimated to be the end of 2009.

MicroSoft has also announced the support of XP SP3 until 2014

What should I do?   Buy Vista or wait for Windows 7 and continue to use Windows XP until it arrives.  We recommend for most businesses to use XP and wait for Windows 7.

We can however provide new desktop and laptop computers that have Windows XP running correctly  All these systems meet the requirements for Vista and WINDOWS 7.

In the past whenever MicroSoft has released a new major software, we have waited to recommend it for many businesses until the first service pack was distributed before we became serious as to recommending it.  Even with the SP1 release the basic opinion of most independent consultants is not to implement Vista in a business environment.  Companies such as Intel do not have Vista running company wide..
